Bulgaria: Breaking News: Bulgaria’s PM Boyko Borissov Resigns His Seat in Parliament

The Chairman of GERB and Prime Minister Boyko Borisov gave up his seat as Member of the National Assembly.

“Today I submitted an application to the CEC and resign my seat in parliament, announced Boyko Borissov."I don't need immunity. As prime minister I didn't have one, and I don't need it now. So I left the two constituencies where I won the leadership battle with the opponents," Borissov said.

"Our opponents tried to talk about the collapsed GERB and what happened – they collapsed. Such an election defeat as that of BSP I have not seen in decades", noted the leader of GERB. Borissov called on voters not to feel offended, regardless of which party they sympathized with and supported in the vote. "These are Bulgarian citizens, do not pique at each other exchanging insults.

We were called loosers, but out of 31 multi-member constituencies GERB won in 24. Those who collapsed should better draw conclusions, these insults brought about their breakdown," Borissov added. The leader of GERB reminded that GERB also won the constituencies, where Kornelia Ninova, Hristo Ivanov and Slavi Trifonov also vied for the support of the voters.

"GERB came out first in the native village of President Radev, and in Pleven, and in Uchindol (Slavi Trifonov’s native village – ed.’s note), in Kyustendil, Bankya, as well as in Vratsa, Montana, Vidin. Let's respect each other, there‘s hard work behind this victory, this is the choice of the voters", GERB Chairman Boyko Borissov was adamant.

The leader of GERB pointed out that he treats all voters and all opponents with respect. "Elections are held to ensure governance. During the election campaign you say what makes you better than others, but then the goal is to form a government and it should be a stable government so that you can fulfill what you have pledged ", added Boyko Borisov.
