The government allocates an additional BGN 96 million to further support the health system, doctors and hospitals, announced Prime Minister Boyko Borissov after an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers held today.
BGN 46 million is earmarked are for the purchase of Remdesivir, which will meet the needs of the medical institutions by September. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we've given BGN 80 million for almost 100,000 doses of this medicine.
Another 50 million is meant for the payment of the BGN 1,000bonus for April to frontline workers in hospitals and emergency services. The funds we have provided for medics and non-medical frontline staff amount to BGN 370 million, said Prime Minister Borissov.
We provide the financial support as early as possible so that both medics and citizens believe that we will withstand the pressure. He noted that the state has done its job well.
"We are making this decision so that people can be reassured that there are enough medicines and medical staff is ensured," the Prime Minister said. Borissov is adamant that although the elections are on the doorstep, the government will not allow financial stress in healthcare. The Prime Minister reminded that for months now the government has allocated huge funds along these lines.
