Bulgaria: Bulgaria: Workers Stranded in Two-Meter High Snowdrifts near Vratsa

Snowbanks two-meter high have stranded people working in the area of Ledenika cave near Vratsa, the mayor of the city Kalin Kamenov said.

Caterpillar vehicles were sent on location to deliver food and water.

"Over 2 meters are the snowdrifts around the cave Ledenika cave. The road in its last 2-kilometer sector is impassable. We have sent caterpillar vehicles there to deliver food and water to employees from tourist sites in the area who are caught in the snow trap. They will be evacuated as soon as possible. Avoid traveling to that region", Kamenov wrote on his Facebook account.

In 14 districts - Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Lovech, Pernik, Sofia-city, Sofia, Plovdiv, Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil, Pazardzhik, Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo, today a code yellow is declared for potentially dangerous weather and strong wind.

In northwestern Bulgaria, wind gusts reached a velocity of 80 km/h. There were no reports of buildings destroyed and roofs falling. In Vratsa municipality there are no households left without electricity. However, due to heavy rainfall in the town of Chiren the local river recently flooded a bridge and temporarily blocked access to several houses in the village. Many of the basements and courtyards in the houses are under water. Wind gusts are expected to subside by the end of the day.
