The government in Belgrade announced state of emergency and three days of national mourning after Serbian Prime Minister, Zoran Djindjic, was assasinated on Wednesday.
At the moment the centre of Belgrade is blocked, policemen check and search all passing cars.
Numerous policemen guard the building of the government. An hour after the death of Zoran Djindjic Serbian foreign minister arrived there and opened an emergency meeting of the Cabinet. Measures for blocking the land borders of Serbia has been undertaken.
Zoran Djindjic, was assasinated on in front of the Serbian parliament building in Belgrade at around 1300 (1200 gmt). He was immediately taken to hospital where he underwent an operation but died from his wounds.
