Most Bulgarian politicians condemned the assassination of Serbian Prime Minister Djindjic shortly after the news broke.

"The assassination of Djindjic is political. I expect many gloomy forecasts for the region as long as there is an assault against a prime minister," Konstantin Penchev, lawmaker from the ruling Simeon II National Movement commented.

Socialist Party leader Sergey Stanishev expressed his "anger from the assassination" and harshly condemned the act.

"The murder of Zoran Djinndjic is with political motives and will have negative consequences for Serbia and the region," Dimitur Abadzhiev from rightist United Democratic Forces commented.
