Iraqi charge d'affaires in Sofia Yahya Salih Mahdi implied that the Burgas airport could be attacked in case of war. Bulgaria's parliament allowed the use of the airport by 18 US aircraft and deployment of 400 US ground troops in the east European country on February 7th.

"All US bases across the world will be targets of our strikes. The true Muslim has to choose between victory and death," the Iraqi envoy said in the seaside city.

Mahdi also said that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction. In his opinion, the United States wants to wage war against Iraq because of economic interests.

The statement of the Iraqi diplomat provokes the Bulgarian Interior Ministry to step up security measures, Minister Petkanov commented.
