Putin Arrived in Sofia

Russian President Putin, accompanied by his wife, stepped on Bulgarian land at 6:20 pm on Saturday.

He arrived on a three-day official visit to Bulgaria. This is the first visit of a Russian leader for the last ten years.

Later on Saturday, Putin and his Bulgarian host Parvanov attended the opening of the Russian Days of Culture in National Palace of Culture.

The Iraqi situation is expected to be top on the agenda of the meeting. Bulgaria, a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has declared its pro-American stance. Russia has so far strongly opposed military intervention and favors pursuing diplomatic channels to solve the crisis.
