Politics | September 15, 2001, Saturday // 00:00

The parliamentary group of the Simeon II National Movement has not discussed Simeon Saxe-Coburg`s nomination for the presidency, deputy floor leader Vladimir Donchev said. Reacting to speculations in the press, leaders of the SNM, the Socialist Party and the ethnic Turks` Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), which are represented in the government, denied having met to nominate a presidential candidate.
The Constitution can be amended by a majority of three quarters
of the 240 MPs in three votings on three days. Asked if Simeon II could be the unifying figure of the left-wing Coalition for Bulgaria, the SNM and the MRF in the presidential elections, Socialist Party Spokesman Angel Naidenov told journalists it could not be ruled out.
