44 percent of Bulgarian magistrates and law officials would like the Parliament to introduce a shorter timeframe for resolving legal deputes that involve commercial corporations and individual plaintiffs. The data comes from a poll conducted by the National public Opinion Center among 481 judges, prosecutors, investigators, lawyers, legal consultants and notaries.
The magistrates also favor simplified procedures, as they want Bulgarian lawmakers to prune the three-instance justice administration. Two-instance system and compulsory deadline for the start of trial proceedings are the solutions suggested by the law officials.
Some 14 percent of the respondents said designated courts or court should specialize in company law. The experts said the adjournment options should be substantially reduced, the court should accept no more than one medical certificate from no-show witnesses while the authorities should not be obliged to hunt for no-show defendants indefinitely and should try them in absentia instead.
