BGN 373 M SPENT IN EXCESS FOR FY 2000

The National Insurance Institute /NII/ reported BGN 373 M excess spending in FY 2000. The report was voted by parliament on second reading. The average monthly pension last year was BGN 86.41 together with a small Christmas bonus. Budgeted income for last year stood at BGN 2,423,024,000, while the total budgeted spending was BGN 2,895,973,800. The actual income however equals BGN 2,336,791,200 while the spending was BGN 2,826,434,400. 95% of the planned income from insurance installments of employers and 80.54% of the self-insured individuals have been collected. The discrepancy is due mainly to the error in the estimated unemployment. The NII FY 2000 budget planned the number of unemployed to be 640,000, while the actual number of jobless reached 693,500.
