Bulgaria: Bulgarian Customs Officials Detained Polish Man Carrying 41,000 Euros at Kapitan Andreevo Checkpoint

Undeclarated EUR 41,000 were detained by customs officers from the General Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation of Kapitan Andreevo. The currency was found in a Polish-registered lorry traveling from Turkey to Poland.

The driver who submitted regular documents on the cargo carried and stated that he was not transferring personal belongings, goods or currency for declaring. The vehicle was selected for a rigorous customs check, in which euro banknotes in different denominations of EUR 40,000 were found on the driver's cab.

Upon a personal review of the driver, more than 1,000 euros were found in his wallet. The total of EUR 41,000, with the BGN equivalent of BGN 80,189, was detained.
