Bulgaria: Last Year there were 138 Intentional Murders in Bulgaria

On average every week in Bulgaria there are more than two cases of intentional murder. Every day on the country's roads there are an average of 18 crashes with more than one victim, and 23 people get injuries. Citizens' property is subject to more than 123 attacks every day, and every third of them is revealed. Eight million leva were lost by the victims of phone fraudsters every year, as citizens are fooled every day at least three such crimes.


This is all according to the data of the Ministry of Interior for 2018, published on its site. The Ministry of the Interior reports crimes and marks an improvement on all indicators - their number decreases and the disclosure increases.


More than 90% of the intentional killings are revealed

A total of 138 intentional murders have been recorded (completed and attempted). Of these, 92 have ended with the victim's death. The most  homicides were registered in Sofia-city - 11, Sofia-District - 7, Plovdiv - 6, Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, Rousse and Sliven - 5. Nearly 96% of these cases were discovered. However, in the attempted murder, the increase is almost 50% from 2017, according to the data of the agency.


Most thefts are committed by burglary

Of the crimes against property the thefts occupy the highest relative share - 79.7%. During the year a total of 35 860 thefts were reported, compared to 40 947 in 2017, or 12.4%. The disclosure is 34.1%, which is 2.9 points more than 2017 (31.2%).


A major part of the thefts are burglary. In 2018, 7482 such cases were registered, 15.4% less than 2017. Revisibility increased by 1.3 percentage points to 15.1%. The Ministry of Interior reports a positive trend in house theft, which decreases by 12.6% compared to 2017. The disclosure increases by 3.4 points from 23.6% to 27%.


A decrease of 16.2% is also found in frauds. Of the 3,121 reported frauds, 510 were discovered. The perpetrators found were 394, including 11 children and four foreigners. Additionally, over the period, 324 frauds were reported in previous years, with 353 perpetrators being identified.


Damage from telephone fraud is 8 million leva.

The decrease in phone frauds was 17.2%. In 2018, 1097 telephone frauds were reported, compared with 1325 in 2017. 201 (18.3%) were revealed, compared to 171 (12.9%) in 2017. 145 perpetrators (rotors, controllers and mules) were found, compared with 148 in 2017. In 2018, over 60 telephone frauds were detected from previous periods (42 in 2017), with established perpetrators being 68 (48 in 2017).


Most telephone frauds are registered in Sofia (340), Varna (75), Haskovo (63), Ruse (62), Burgas (60) and Shumen (56). The damage caused is over 8 million leva.


Decreased registered crime also in villages

As a result of the targeted work of mobile teams to counter conventional crime in small settlements, in 2018, there is a decline in the levels of registered crime in villages, which is 8.2% less than in 2017, in the report. The most significant decrease was observed in Pleven (23.2%), Blagoevgrad (17.6%), Kyustendil (16.9%) and Burgas (16.8%). The level of disclosure is 1.7 percentage points higher than in 2017


Victims on the road are 611, 71 less than in the previous year, according to statistics. The injured are 8471, the decrease is 209.
