Bulgaria: Over 40 kg of Opium Captured at the Turkish-Bulgarian Border

The teams of the District Customs Directorate and Anti-Trafficking at the Turkish Ministry of Commerce seized 42 kilos of opium at the Hamsabayli-Lesovo border checkpoint at the Turkish-Bulgarian border.

The discovered opiate is worth 1 642 000 Turkish lira (over 522 000 Bulgarian leva). The operation was carried out on the Customs Plate of Hamzabeyli as a result of tracking a suspicious motor vehicle.

When the car arrived at Hamzabeyli, it was subjected to a scanner scan that showed unchecked cargo.

A specially trained dog was also involved in the customs check, which was assigned to the Anti-Trafficking Service at the Security Directorate of Edirne. The narcotic substance was distributed in 13 compressed packages hidden at different locations in the vehicle.

The police confiscated opium, and the unidentified driver was sent to prison with a court order.
