Bulgaria: Traffic in Downtown Sofia will be Difficult until Tuesday

The movement in downtown Sofia will be hampered in the coming days due to the celebration of the national holiday and the visit of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. This was warned by the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs, stressing that strict measures have been taken to protect public order, traffic organization and avoidance of city disturbances.


For the ceremony of raising the national flag before the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, which starts at 11 am on March 3rd, 6 checkpoints will be built around the monument. In order to ensure safety during the solemn fireworks, which starts at 18.30 in the National Assembly, two rounds of security will be built together with "Military Police" officers, according to the Sofia SDR, "Citizens will be admitted in detachments pocket on "Tsar Osvoboditel" Blvd., on GS Rakovski St., as well as on the roadway of "Tsar Osvoboditel" Blvd., in the section of Narodno Sabranie square next to "Vasil Levski" Blvd. the area will be cut off by a police strip and heavy rails, "the statement said.


The police add that on March 3rd there will be a lot of processions and rallies on the occasion of the national holiday in the area of ​​the monuments of the Unknown Soldier, the Tsar Osvoboditel and the Bulgarian Opalchenets and remind that the law of such mass acts is forbidden to import firearms or cool arms, alcohol use, and the use of loud noise.


On March 4, a ceremony for the official reception of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev and his delegation, will be held at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, who will arrive on a two-day official visit to Bulgaria. The SDR warned that during the visit the streets along the route of the delegation would be shut down if necessary, and urged the citizens and guests of the capital to be patient and understanding if they were caused by any inconvenience.
