The European Commission has accused the Hungarian government of a disinformation campaign because of accusations that Brussels is in a secret conspiracy with financier George Soros in order to increase migration in Europe, reports Darik
 
Hungary has a cruel anti-immigration policy and has opposed the mandatory quotas for the distribution of migrants. Moreover, Budapest refuses to sign the UN Global Compact on Migration. Tensions in relations with Brussels escalated after advertising posters appeared in Hungary with the photo of Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and financier Soros.
 
"It was decided to post a response after the Hungarian government launched a campaign called" You have a right to know what Brussels is planning ". The EC agrees that citizens really deserve to know the truth about what the EU is doing. But we think they deserve facts, not fictions, "the EC said in a statement.

In the opinion of the executive body of the Union, the Hungarian campaign "distorts the truth and tries to portray a grim picture of a secret conspiracy to stimulate migration in Europe."
 
"The truth is there is no conspiracy. The statements of the Hungarian Government are at best inaccurate or misleading. And none of them has anything to do with George Soros. Therefore, the Commission would like to clarify this point, "point by point", Brussels writes.

 
The EC denies claims that it intends to "introduce mandatory resettlement quotas", saying refugee resettlement has always been and will always be "on a voluntary basis".

European officials also disagree with the claim that they want to "weaken the right of Member States to protect their borders", "to facilitate immigration through migrant visas" or to "give even more money to organizations that support immigration."
 
"The European Commission does not intend to introduce humanitarian visas, but the EC does not cooperate with any organization that promotes illegal migration." EU assistance does not encourage migration, it only helps refugees already in Greece, "Brussels responded.
 
The EC also refuted the claim that it "wants to reduce funding for countries that oppose immigration," saying EU funding is in no way related to supporting or opposing migration.
