When the air in Prague is too polluted, public transport in the Czech capital will be free of charge in the future, DPA reported.
The Dirty Air Scheme will allow anyone, including tourists, to benefit from free travel, a city administration spokesman said.
Given that in Prague, the days with too much smog in a year are between five and seven, mainly because of the cars, the expectation is that the measure will cost about 200 thousand euros per year.
Meanwhile, the city is launching an information campaign to promote shared travel, and plans to raise fines for drivers who deliberately remove particle filters in their cars to save gasoline.
