Following months of rumours and reports, Canada’s first ever eSports Stadium has finally been given a speculative opening date. Located in Richmond, Vancouver, The Gaming Stadium will hopefully be opening on Friday 26 April.
A Temporary Solution, For Now
The professional gaming arena is currently owned by a Vancouver group named Myesports Venture Ltd, and its opening will mark a huge change in how gaming is seen in Canada. That said, the current arena will be a temporary stadium, while they continue with construction plans to build a permeant stadium starting in the summer.
Speaking to dailyhive.com, CEO of Myesports Dan Cybak said: “the last few months have been crazy!” He also went on to say that his colleagues have been running multiple trial events and really engaging with the local eSports communities in an attempt to ensure all upcoming events at The Gaming Stadium will run smoothly. Already, Myesports has run trial events focusing on some of the most popular eSports games in the world, including CS:GO, League of Legends and Fortnite.
Canada Loves Gaming - Especially Casinos
The success of the temporary stadium and all the events held there will have an impact on whether a permeant arena will be built. Having run so many trial events so far though, there’s no reason to think that The Gaming Arena won’t be a hit. After all, eSports is incredibly popular all around the world and Canada loves gaming of all kinds.
According to statista.com, the amount Canadian’s spend on video games this year alone will reach .47 billion, a slight increase on 2018 where .42 billion was garnered. By far though, Canada’s favourite gaming pastime seems to be casinos. Specifically, online casinos such as Royal Casino, Casumo and others on, online-casinos-canada.ca with Canadian casino fans raking in over billion in 2017 alone. This love for casinos goes towards a further report published by EEDAR back in January revealed that stated North American mobile gamers generated almost billion in 2018, though we can’t be sure how much of that came from Canada. Really, if you were going to build a gaming arena anywhere, Canada is probably the best choice!
The Gaming Arena
Needless to say, we’re pretty confident that gamers will flock to The Gaming Stadium. Apparently, the venue will host over 40 setups, a drop-in section and space for 250 spectators all within 20,000 sqft.
As for who will be turning up to compete, Cybak says: “We’ve been working behind the scenes with a lot of eSports players in the city. While I can’t say too much, we’re confident that we’re going to be the leader of eSports in Canada.” We'll have to give it some time to see whether Canadians will embrace eSports as much as they have casino games, videogames and other popular entertainment
