Bulgaria: Football World Cup 2030 in the Balkans - How is the Preparation for our Candidacy Going?

Sports ministers and representatives of the football federations of Bulgaria, Romania, Greece and Serbia will hold a workshop in Sofia on February 25, 2019.

The host of the meeting is the Bulgarian Football Union and Boyana National Football Base. Minister Krasen Kralev, Serbia Youth and Sports Minister Vania Udovicic, Greek Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports Georgos Vasiliadis and Romanian Youth and Sports Minister Bogdan Constantine Matei will discuss the progress of the four countries on preparing for a joint nomination for a hosting the 2030 World Cup and the European Football Championship in 2028

As a result of the meetings of sports ministers, football leaders and experts, a joint text of a Memorandum of Understanding between the four Governments is expected to formalize the establishment of an organizing committee to prepare for the World Cup 2030 and the European Championship 2028.

Bulgaria looks seriously at the 2030 World Cup

On the side of Bulgaria, the President of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) Borislav Mihailov, the Executive Director of the National Sports Base Plamen Manolov, the Deputy Executive Director of the Bulgarian Football Union Anton Popov and the Director of the European Programs, Projects and International Directorate co-operation "of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Victoria Slavkova.

On behalf of Romania, the meeting will be attended by Romanian Football Union President Razvan Bourleanu and Romanian star of the 1990s, Gheorghe Popescu, who is currently Romania's Prime Minister Viorika Dunquila's Sports Affairs Adviser.


The Executive Secretary of the Football Federation of Greece Alexis Dedes and the Cabinet Deputy Minister Vassiliadis will participate in the expert meeting on behalf of Greece.
Serbia will be represented by Vice-President of the Serbian Football Association Marco Pantelic, General Secretary of the Association Jovan Shurbatovic, Secretary of State Predrag Perunicic and Deputy Secretary General of the Association. Sport Minister Darko Udovicic.

After the working meeting on Monday, sports ministers and representatives of the football federations of Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania and Greece will give a statement to the media.
The workshop in Sofia is the third among the four countries.

The first two took place in Serbia in November and December last year. It is expected that the next talks on the joint candidatures will be in April in Thessaloniki, Greece.
