Bulgaria: At least 30% Drop in Winter Tourists in Bansko and the Area Predict Bulgarian Hoteliers

At least 30 per cent drop in winter tourists in Bansko and the region predict hoteliers. The restaurant owners suggest the decrease will be even bigger, said the industry and warned of mass bankruptcies if the state did not introduce clear rules for the all-inclusive service, the BNR said.

Although in the days of the World Ski Cup is occupied almost one hundred percent, the Union of Tourist Business registered a large outflow of tourists from Great Britain, Turkey, Russia and especially from Bulgaria.

Because of the big queues in front of the cabin lift, the advertising of the resort as the cheapest winter destination and the price dumping, which distorts the competitive environment, in the last few years in Bansko are becoming increasingly insufferable for tourists. All-inclusive packages of 25-30 euros are available on the market. An alarming indication is also the fact that the group of high-class hotels of the concessionaire of the ski zone also offer cheap prices.

Indications to the problems exist for several years, but for this winter season the forecasts are very worrying.

In Greece and Turkey there are state requirements and high standards for the all-inclusive service, which is only allowed in high-calorific hotels and closed tourist complexes. That is why the Union of Tourist Business in Bansko will raise the issue with all state institutions, said the chairman of the organization, Malin Bistrin.
