Prime Saxe-Coburg will pay a three-day working visit to the United States at the personal invitation of President Bush. Saxe-Coburg will meet with Bush on February 25th in the White House. That was announced on Thursday by Dimitur Tsonev, spokesman of the government.
The spokesman also said that the invitation was extended before the Brussels summit of the European Union in the beginning of this week regarding the Iraqi crisis. At the summit, French President Chirac criticized Bulgaria for siding with the United States.
Bulgaria agreed to allow US troops and use of its Burgas airport in case of war against Iraq. Bulgaria is on the UN Security Council, although without the power of veto. It would like to see a peaceful resolution to the crisis, but could probably be persuaded to back a war without a second UN resolution.
