Bulgaria's best tennis player went out of USD 585,000 Dubai Open after she suffered a defeat in the second round by former top 20 Uzbekistani, Iroda Tulyaganova (7:6, 7:5).

In the first round seventh-rated Maleeva faced Emmanuelle Gagliardi (SUI), whom she beat (7:5, 6:2).

Another two seeds left the tournament together with Maleeva - sixth-rated Patty Schnyder of Switzerland and eighth-rated Eleni Daniilidou of Greece.

In the second round Jennifer Capriati won her first match of the year and her first since losing her Australian Open title last month, defeating Svetlana Kusnetsova 6-2 6-2.

Elsewhere, top-seed Justine Henin had to rally to defeat Anca Barna of Germany 1-6 6-2 6-4. The Belgian admitted that she had a hard time adjusting to the desert heat after playing indoors in wintery Antwerp last week.
