Every Third Teacher in Bulgaria Complains of Severe Stress
35% of Bulgarian teachers complain of a strong general stress, according to data from the teachers' syndicate under the Podkrepa Labor Code. The research is at the National Center for Public Health and Analysis, reports Darik.
According to it, three quarters of the surveyed teachers characterize their workload as high and with a high rate of work. 62% work on shifts, creating additional problems for 12.5% of those surveyed.
Mental exhaustion after work more than twice a month is reported by 63% of the teachers, for physical exhaustion - 48%, and for sleeping disorders - 40%. A quarter of teachers report the occurrence of conflicts and problems in their families, directly related to their workload, sums up Standard.
The profile of professional stressors shows that noise, student behavior and contact with many people are leading sources of stress for more than half to two-thirds of teachers. The results of the same study indicate that teachers have an average of 6 health symptoms, with 35% of the surveyed teachers absent from work in connection with these health complaints.
The most common are the pains in bones, muscles and joints, of which more than half of the teachers complain. 48% complain of high anxiety and 38% of back pain. 36 per cent have problems with dizziness, and every third teacher complains of pain in the heart, as well as headaches.
The syndicate points out that an important aspect of health is the aging of teachers in Bulgaria, as with age there are a number of changes in musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, vision, hearing, etc. The share of teachers with chronic illnesses is increasing.
That is why the trade unions agree with the Ministry of Education and Science to set up a rehabilitation system for teachers and the ministry will pay some of the funds for their treatment when they use NSSI bases.
