The wages of all judges, prosecutors and investigators will increase by 10% in 2019. The same increase also applies to all employees of the judiciary, reports Dnevnik. 

This was voted unanimously by the Plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council, only the chairman of the Supreme Court of Cassation Lozan Panov was absent.

The rank bonus is increased by BGN 100. Thus for the first rank of the magistrate he will receive BGN 200, for the second - 300, and for the third - 350 levs addition to the salary.

The decision does not take into account the different quality of the work - whether a judge has more or less revoked acts of the highest instance, whether a prosecutor has more or less proven allegations before the court.

The alternative proposal submitted earlier by 9 council members was not put to vote, it provided for the increase of 10 percent to be reserved for junior magistrates and employees, and for all others to add to the regional, appellate and supreme one the same an equal amount of BGN 204. The purpose of this proposal is to move towards a reduction in the gap between the highest and lowest wages in the judiciary. Yesterday, however, at a working session SJC members decided to unite around the decision they voted today. Prosecutor's office member Gergana Mutafova confirmed she was among the proposers of the alternative but she also voted for the 10% increase in all salaries.

The representative of the Supreme Judicial Council, Boyan Magdalinchev, described the decision as interim and temporary, as a "new algorithm" is to be sought in the ratio of wages to the level of the system.

At present, the salary at the highest supreme level is just over BGN 4,000, and at the lowest regional level is just over BGN 2,000.
