Bulgaria: Hundreds of Artists and a 30-meter Stage for the Opening of Plovdiv 2019

Hundreds of artists will go on a 30-meter stage for the opening show of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019. The show will be on January 12 and its theme is "We Are All the Colors".

The stage of 6 levels will be erected on the central Plovdiv Boulevard "Tsar Boris III Obedinitel". The equipment for the show will arrive in Plovdiv with 20 trucks and 200 people will assemble the scene. Due to the construction of the tower and the podiums to it one of the main roads in the city will be closed days before the show. The Plovdiv 2019 Foundation expects up to 80,000 people to gather for the show. Because of security considerations on the stage out if 6 floors 5 will be used. On the floors of the stage will be placed screens and multimedia elements. With 350 luminaries, the tower will be transformed into a distinctive light symbol.

The tower has the capacity to accommodate 1500 artists at the same time and to give all spectators a good view of the show.

Artistic director of the opening spectacle of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019 is the founder of Phase7 Sven Soren Bayer, whose goal is to provide viewers with an unforgettable experience. "The starting point of the show is the diversity of Plovdiv - a city with 8000-year history, combining many cultures and influences. "Diversity" and "We Are All the Colors "are the key messages in the concept of the opening spectacle associated with the motto "Together" explained the leadership of the Plovdiv-2019 Foundation.

They added that the performance is divided into several segments and combines traditional Bulgarian performances and modern technologies. The beginning will be put by the musician Theodosii Spassov, as he "brings the message of connection between the past and the present with his original compositions with kaval. The musician writes a new work specifically for the opening.

The show will feature over 200 kukeri from across the region to start the year and drive out evil. Important role will also be played by actors from the National High School of Performing Arts in Plovdiv. Students who are studying stage makeup will be responsible for the appearance of all the participants in the show.

The dancers from the folk ensemble "Trakia" will present a new contemporary dance choreography.

Director Hristo Namliev prepares a segment in which 200 choristers from the formations of the city will be conducted by Dian Chobanov. With them there will be 20 bagpipers from the Bulgarian National Bagpipe Association. Performers from the Academy of Music and Dance will surprise the audience with laser harps.

1000 Bulgarians who have expressed their desire to participate through online campaigns and live meetings with coordinators will be on the stage to visualize the city's 2019 message "Together".

About 150 children from the Plovdiv Sports School "Vasil Levski" will help the organization during the show.

The show "We Are All Colors" will end with a firework, performance by Valia Balkanska and bagpiper Peter Yanev. Then there will be the German DJ Schiller, who starts his European tour from Plovdiv.

The artistic director of the show is Sven Soren Bayer, Steffen Fuchs is technical manager. Director of the show is Peter Briks. The lighting is entrusted to Bjorn Hermann and the video design by Fried Weiss. The visual effects take on Hayo Rimm and Daniel Bandke. Composer is Hristo Namliev, and music directors - Christian Steinhozer and Maxt Treder. The stage director for the theater speech is Gustav Rüb. Choreography is made by Lydia Clement and costumes are by Pedro Richter.

The start time is 19.00, but the organizers recommend the audience to go to the city center a few hours earlier, as well as use public transport to avoid traffic.
