The Consultative Council of the State Energy and Energy Resources Agency discussed the problems with the spent nuclear fuel from the Kozloduy nuclear power plant. `Changes in the strategy of the plant are necessary`, according to the chair of the council Milko Kovachev. The report presented by Kozloduy`s management does not clarify whether Bulgaria will store the spent nuclear fuel assemblies or export them. Some issues of the plant`s financial policy are also not clearly stated. Two options are viable for the plant-to export the nuclear fuel to Russia or another country; or to postpone the decision. No matter which of the options is chosen, in the first five or six years the spent fuel should be exported due to the accumulated delay. `The safest option for Bulgaria is to export the spent fuel,` the CEO of the Kozloduy nuclear power plant, Yordanov said.
