Festival А TO JAZZ 2018 in Sofia
This year, the strong music selection of A to JazZ is not the only one with which the festival will shine in South Park 2 on July 6, 7 and 8. World-renowned artists, highly talented European and native bands as well as rising stars will be on stage. An amazing combination of artists, as well as a completely unique experience, make the festival a favorite not only for audiences but also for artists from all over the world.
Apart from the headliners of the festival, whose names speak for themselves on their rank and place on the world jazz scene, we will also hear many other outstanding musicians. The first day will be unveiled by the debut concert of the band SOLEIL, which breaks off its alternative experimental sound through the prism of modern and classical music styles such as Indi, Jazz and Soul Rock. In the early evening hours of July 6 we will also hear Lily Ilieva and Quartet Minimum, who will present their first album "No Stars At All" exclusively for A to JazZ. Glo Bal Kan is another Bulgarian project that will play at A to JazZ. The band will present original contet with examples of authentic Bulgarian, Balkan and world folklore. The great star for the evening will be the gentle force in Lalah Hathaway's unstoppable and unlimited voice. She is the winner of five Grammy Awards, which will present her new album honestly, and A to JazZ will be the only point in Eastern Europe that will have the pleasure of enjoying it.
Saturday will start with Bozhidar 'Trombobby' Vassilev, well known for the Southwick and DAYO projects, he will also present his album. Immediately after him, a star trio from Luxembourg will get on the stage - Dock In Absolute - will shine in their unique style, a mix of progressive jazz, classics and rock performing their own compositions. The energy of the stage will be continued by the unique Lithuanian saxist Dainius Pulauskas, whose music puts him at the forefront of the progressive European jazz fusion. The aces of the evening will be the undisputed talent of Jazzmeia Horn, who will present her recently released album A Social Call in combination with her New York Quartet.
The last third festival day will be opened by the Bulgarian-American music group TWO CITY ONE WORLD, followed immediately by the JM Jazz World Orchestra (JMJWO), a leading international youth big band consisting of 18 young professional jazz musicians from 12 different countries and 6 continents. They are led by Grammy winner trombone and composer Lius Bonilla, and Sofia is part of their seventh European tour. "Letting the Opera in Jazz," produced by Milica Gladnishka and Mihail Yosifov sixtet, is the next outstanding project we will hear in the last A to JazZ evening. Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles will definitely impress with the hectic mix of funk, soul, blues, R & B, afro-beat, gospel and jazz, overflowing genres and reversing the emotions of the audience at the festival.
Besides the quality musical program, the eighth edition of the festival will be full of amenities and novelties that will make the experience even more elegant and unforgettable.
One of the things that A to JazZ offers to its audience for the first time is a stylish "jazz picnic basket" that contains everything needed for shared outdoor moments: a special picnic blanket, a bottle of fine wine, Italian delicacies and glasses for four will be arranged in a beautiful knit basket. It can be purchased in advance on the A to JazZ site and will expect its holders at the festival stand at the event.
The organizers also thought about the supporters of a healthy lifestyle with the first Bio Bar during a music festival. It will offer delicious and natural salads, sandwiches, raw desserts and other healthy, energy foods and organic drinks. The famous SpeedBar edition of last year's edition will again serve "virtually" through your phone's browser. The big event successfully introduced the fast and quality service platform in its previous edition, the advantage of this bar being that instead of queuing to order a drink, visitors choose the product through their smartphone, pay online with their debit or credit card and in just minutes they are notified that they can take their ready order from Speed.Bar.
One of the most important innovations this year will be the launch of the A to JazZ TALKS platform for professional discussions and workshops on topics related to the development of jazz and improvisation music in Europe and the world. The initiative aims to create a platform for sharing experiences, ideas and developing partnerships. All those wishing to participate can register before July 3 at www.atojazz.bg/program/atojazz-talks/. The first day, July 6, the conference will be dedicated to the theme of "European Jazz Without Borders", and the next day, July 7, the topic of Focus will be "Ladies in Jazz".
Traditionally, the Art Bazaar will present a new selection of creative exhibitors to showcase their art, clothing and accessories, and the most faithful A to JazZ fans will be able to "dress up in jazz" with the official merchandise made by Rush Streetlife.
Last but not least, the special music workshop for children - A to JazZ KIDS will take place within the festival. Like every year, the educational program also tells the story of jazz in a fun way with children's games to awaken the little kids's love of melody and rhythm.
A JazZ KIDS will take place July 7 and 8 at 10:30 am in South Park II. You can see the complete program here.
