Bulgaria: The First of the Trains for the New Metro Line Arrived in Sofia

The first Siemens train of the 20 to be on the third line of the metro has arrived in Sofia. It came to the capital on 25 June and was transported during the night, the mayor of Yordanka Fandakova said.


The new metro line will have a total length of 16 km, connecting the Hadzhi Dimitar and Gorna Banya districts with 12 metro stations. Their names are VV Vazov, Trakia, Georgi Asparuhov Stage, Orlov Bridge, Patriarh Evtimii Blvd., Hristo Botev Blvd., Medical Academy, Bulgaria Blvd., Tsar Boris Treti Blvd., Mizia, Ovcha Kupel, Ovcha Kupel II and Gorna Bania.

Initially the new diameter had to be ready by the middle of 2019, but due to delays, the first 8 km will be released - from Vladimir Vazov Blvd to Krasno Selo.


Its trains have automatic speed-controlled steering, energy-saving, and have an automatic video transmission system in the driver's cab. There is also a possibility to move the train without a driver.
