Bulgaria: The Floods in Romania Took Four Victims

Four are the victims of torrential rains and floods in Romania over the past two days, mediafax reports.

A man who tried to cross a river with a hrose in southern County Arges was taken from the waters. His body was discovered in the water by firefighters who tried to save him, but unsuccessfully. In a river in the northeast Neamt County, the body of a man who was declared missing last night was discovered. The signal was given by his blind wife, who was gathering wood near the river.

Yesterday, a 81-year-old woman died in the northeast Botosani district after the roof of her house collapsed over her as a result of torrential rains, and a 70-year-old woman drowned in eastern Vrancea County.

The interior ministry said today that 760 people had been rescued or evacuated from flooded areas, and more than 20,000 emergency officials were involved in rescue efforts, the Associated Press reported.

Five national roads are flooded and rail traffic is interrupted in central Romania. Many settlements have been left without electricity. Authorities monitor the incoming waters of two rivers in northern Romania, BTA points out.
