Bulgaria: The Food Agency has Banned Imports of Pork in Bulgaria

Bulgaria will no longer be able to import food for personal consumption containing pork, says an order of the Executive Director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency due to the African swine fever disease, reports Sega.

92 outbreaks of African swine fever have already occurred in the Romanian town of Tulcea, which is only 160 km away from the Bulgarian border.

The disease is extremely aggressive, carries heavy economic losses and people contribute to the spread of infection by transporting food for personal consumption.

That is why no one can import a pork in Bulgaria anymore. Checks will be made at all borders, not just those with Romania, and food will be confiscated. Any meat that is unlabeled, whether it be with pork or other meat, will be seized.

In addition, intensive shooting of wild boars has begun in order to reduce their population, as they are also carriers of the infection. The disease is not dangerous for humans, the Food Agency said.
