Bulgaria: Bulgarian Bus Carriers are Protesting

Around 250 buses from around the country and about 50 heavy trucks will participate in today's national protest in Sofia against the prepared bill for the establishment of the Bulgarian Automobile Chamber, reports Bgnes.

According to the carriers, this Chamber will not solve the problems in their sector, but will deepen them. The transport of passengers will not be discontinued.

At 10 am, about 50 buses will park in the square in front of the St. Alexander Nevski Cathedral, while the other buses will start to be placed in the far right of Tsarigradsko shosse Blvd in the direction of Sofia. An hour later the bus carriers with their vehicles in a peaceful procession on the boulevards "Tsar Osvoboditel" and "Maria Louisa" to the Central Bus Station in Sofia will demonstrate the disagreement with the prepared law for the creation of the Automobile Chamber.

According to the industry, this structure will be ineffective, will control itself and take over the functions of the Automobile Administration Executive Agency. "A competitor to control a competitor, the danger is to introduce additional corruption," said Ivailo Konstantinov of the National Association of Bus Carriers.

The House of Road Transport Companies in Bulgaria also disagree with the creation of the Chamber in question, so they will join their colleagues in the passenger transport and will park the trucks on Tsarigradsko shosse Blvd. The protest does not intended to stop the traffic in Sofia. The Metropolitan Directorate of the Interior will regulate traffic in order to prevent traffic jams and car columns.
