The fugitive, Vladimir Pelov, was killed in the shootout last night in Botevgrad, regional prosecutor Natalia Nikolova announced at a press conference. Around 11pm on Tuesday in Botevgrad center Pelov was killed in a shootout and another man was injured -  Mario Panchev, who is in a serious condition at the Pirogov hospital in Sofia. Earlier, it became clear that only two of them participated in the shootout, and the investigators believe it is unsettled financial relationship as a motive for it.

For now, a site inspection has been carried out. Three pistols were found during the inspection: one in the lawn, one on the ground beside the body of Pelov, and one in a bag that Vladimir Pelov was carrying, explained Nikolova. There are 7 cartridge cases. Up to now, 7 witnesses have been interviewed, forensic medical expertise has been appointed. There were no direct eyewitnesses of the shooting.

"Vladimir Pelov is the one who who has died for sure, with three injuries - one under the shoulder, the other two in the right leg - in the thigh and the lower leg," Nikolova added, adding that he had been identified through dactyloscopic expertise. Mario Panchev is in very bad condition at Pirogov. "We have data on two injuries to the victim, and his status does not allow us to take any procedural action against him, he is not in a position to be questioned," Nikolova said.

About a month ago, Vladimir Pelov was on the territory of Botevgrad, explained the head of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior - Sofia region, Georgi Grigorov, quoted by BTA. Pelov had changed his appearance. "There have been multiple signals, all of them have been checked," Grigorov said. At the end of last week after a signal, Pelov was wanted on the territory of Botevgrad, but search did not work out.

In the beginning of April, Vladimir Pelov made a spectacular escape from the Sofia Central Prison with another prisoner - Radoslav Kolev. When they escaped, they threatened people with firearm. Since then the fugitives have been searched by the police. Investigators also said they had no information about the second prisoner who escaped along with Pelov in early April from the Sofia Prison. Pelov was sentenced to over 30 years of imprisonment for robbery, kidnapping and attempted murder of two MoI officers.
