A protest against the restart of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant is being held before the National Assembly, BNR reports. The demonstration is organized by the newly formed right-wing Democratic Bulgaria formation, and the occasion is the scheduled for this week consideration of the proposal to abolish the moratorium on the construction of Belene NPP.
Nearly 300 gathered citizens chant 'Resignation'. The dissatisfied people made three demands: to finally abandon the idea of construction of Belene NPP and the site to become an economic zone, someone to be held accountable for ordering equipment as well as it being sold or used by the Kozloduy NPP, the National Radio also reports.
DSB leader and co-chair of Democratic Bulgaria Coalition Atanas Atanasov, one of the organizers of the protest, told the Bulgarian National Radio: "This project is economically unprofitable, ecologically dangerous, we are here because Borisov lied to right-wing voters because the GERB electoral program did not record that they would resume Belene's construction. If they had recorded it he would not have been prime minister today and there would be no GERB in parliament. "
The movement on Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd. is not difficult. Cars pass freely, adds the National Radio.
