Bulgaria: Minimum standards for food will be ready in a month and a half 1ZOOM.Me

Within a month and a half, minimum food standards will be developed to ensure better product quality. This was made clear by the words of the Minister of Agriculture Rumen Porozhanov.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food prepares the introduction of mandatory standards for basic foods as a measure against the double standard. The new rules will define, for example, the minimum meat content of sausages and milk in cheese.

Alongside the issue of the dual food standard, we have analyzed the legislation on food quality. It has shown that only meat products have no requirements that define the minimum contents of a certain amount of meat or other parameters. Since last week, together with meat processors, meat producers, other associations, we have started working on the creation of such standards, Porozhanov told bTV.

He added that the legislation in other countries, which is also new - a few years ago, has also been analyzed. We have to set minimum requirements for both sausage and other meat products to have less than 75% of meat content, "he added. "We will develop these requirements, we must, of course, coordinate it with the EC because there is such a procedure, and we will introduce it in the fastest way," the minister said.

According to him, products that do not meet the new standards will have to be separated into another storefront. A similar thing will be introduced for dairy products in a month and the control will be very serious, he assured.

On the issue of the double standard, Porozhanov also said that he was talking to the big chains with the idea of signing a memorandum to eliminate the differences before the European directives.

Asked to comment on the protest of the rose producers, he pointed out that this year's problem arose in several directions - because of the warmer weather the flowering and the rose gathering were concentrated only in a few days, which made it difficult to buy from the distilleries; on the other hand, there are many unregistered producers without contracts which, in the case of overproduction, are normal to stay away from buying; separately good previous years have created too high expectations for profits in the producers. A draft bill for the rose will be available in a month, the minister said.
