Saudi Arabia has made a proposal to the U.N. Security Council for ending the Iraq crisis peacefully, Foreign Minister Prince Saud was quoted by AP as saying. Prince Saud did not discuss details of the proposal at a news conference in Riyadh Wednesday. However, in an interview posted on Time magazine's Web site, he said the idea entails offering amnesty to some of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's generals to encourage them to overthrow him and avoid a new war. Prince Saud also said his country has asked the Security Council to give Arabs one last chance to avert a strike against Iraq. "The kingdom has asked the Security Council to look into the issue of the Iraqi crisis from all its sides even in the event of a Security Council resolution calling for a war," Saud said.
