U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Tuesday that countries need to rise to the challenge of climate change, quoted by Reuters.
Guterres, speaking at the Chinese Boao Forum for Asia on Hainan island, said that while globalization had helped reduce poverty, vast numbers of people had been left behind and he wanted a fairer outcome.
The UN Secretary-General recalled that the Paris Climate Agreement was signed in 2015, but its implementation is going too slowly, compared to the undesirable transformations of the long-term changes in the world. "As before, I have seen serious investments and subsidies in hydrocarbon resources. It can be said that we are digging our grave ourselves, "Guterres said.
