Bulgaria’s educational decline is illustrated by yet another statistic. According to chairwoman of the syndicate of Bulgarian teachers, Yanka Takeva, in 8 years, 40% of the current teacher base will be retired.

While there’s already a severe shortage of competent teachers in Bulgaria’s educational system, the problem will only deepen as time goes on. According to Takeva, the solution is to attract and motivate more young people into the profession.

Another statistic put forth is that currently, 20,000 university students are being educated to become teachers, yet Takeva claims only half of them will actually enter the educational system of Bulgaria.

Takeva also said:“We are facing a large deficit on how and in what way we can motivate the young people to stay in the system, and yet, I’m convinced that the reports we’ll hear from the foreign delegations will shed some light on the issue”

According to the Minister of Education, attracting young teachers is still a challenge./ EUscoop
