Bulgaria's Maleeva Knocked Out of Pan Pacific Open

Bulgaria's best tennis player Magdalena Maleeva was knocked out in the second round of the USD 1.3 M Pan Pacific Open on Thursday. After dropping the first set, doubles specialist Lisa Raymond clawed her way back to upset the Bulgarian, fifth seed, 2-6 7-6 6-2.

Maggie started her play in Tokyo with a decisive victory over Japan's player Saori Obata 6-3, 6-3, a result which secured her USD 15, 600.

Earlier on Thursday eighth-seeded Russian Elena Dementieva flattened French qualifier Stephanie Cohen Aloro 6-2 6-2 to set up a quarter-final clash with fourth seed Chanda Rubin.

Second seed Jelena Dokic defeated Indonesian Angelique Widjaja 7-6 6-4. Meanwhile, Lindsay Davenport had no trouble ousting Iva Majoli 6-4 6-4 to advance.
