Russia supports the strengthening of Balkan stability and meeting the Helsinki principles, among them the inviolability of the borders in that region, First Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Avdeyev said at a round table meeting on Russian-Bulgarian cooperation on 10 September. For example, `in Macedonia Russia is trying to do its best to stop the spread of Kosovo extremism and terrorism into other countries`, he said. Bulgaria `has been and can be a territory of stability in the Balkans, and Russia is interested in developing bilateral relations on the basis of mutual benefit, confidence and new forms of economic activity`, Avdeyev noted. `Such cooperation will conform to the interests of the two countries.` Russia `is ready to offer Bulgaria cooperation in the energy industry, gas transportation, electricity, oil, atomic energy and the military-technical sphere`, the diplomat noted.
