CRITERIA FOR BIG TAXPAYERS CHANGED
Business | September 10, 2001, Monday // 00:00
The criteria for big taxpayers tax registration will be changed. Anton Tonchev, General Tax Director, already issued the order for the changes. Under the new conditions around 280 companies will be re-registered as big taxpayers. These include all Bulgarian banks, the branches of the foreign banks and all licensed insurance companies. The newly established taxpayers will be notified in writing by the tax administration about the necessary re-registration. The enterprises that will be considered as big taxpayers are those that have `the biggest relative share in the budget revenue`, `the biggest relative share of the funds reimbursed by the budget according to the existing legislation` /i.e. reimbursement of VAT and excise duty/ and `the enterprises which are important for the national economy and which have permission to reschedule tax duties`. Now the number of big taxpayers number was 800. The companies that will no longer be considered as big taxpayers will be notified. The change is necessary because the old criteria can no longer be applied since they reflect the companies` balances by December 31, 1999, the Chief Tax Directorate explained.
