School for Future Parents Opened Doors in Sofia

The first school for future parents in Bulgaria opened doors in Sofia. The school is an idea of First Obstetrics Hospital "St. Sofia." The first classes began in the hospital last Friday.

Before enrolling in the school, the future mothers go through a three-dimensional supersonic examination. The classes take place every Friday at 11 am. The classes include lectures about birth basic facts, anaesthetizing of birth, cares that have to be taken for the newly born, etc.

The interest is very high, doctors from the hospital told novinite.com. They added that they were surprised by the number of interested future parents. Eighteen people take part in the first group of the school. Both future mothers and fathers enrolled in the classes.

60,7 percent of the Bulgarians want to have two children, 15,3 percent want to have one child while 16,3 percent want to have three or more children, data of the National Statistical Institute show.

The number of born out of wedlock children grows in Bulgaria, statistical data also show. In the 80s, every tenth child was born out of wedlock. Today, one of three children is born out of wedlock.

Because of unemployment and other economic reaons, most of the Bulgarians either postpone birth or choose not to have children at all. 23,3 percent postpone the birth of their first child, 46,4 - the birth of their second child and 31,3 - third child.
