BNFL Environmental Services Wins Contract with Bulgaria's N-plant

BNFL Environmental Services, the specialist BNFL business group engaged in decommissioning and remediation, has won a EUR 7.7 million contract for project management and engineering services for implementation of the decommissioning support activities at Kozloduy nuclear power plant in Bulgaria. This was announced the company on Sunday. The contract was awarded by Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, under the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund managed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), to assist Bulgaria with the decommissioning of two of the country's six nuclear reactors.

BNFL Environmental Services, with its consortium partner EDF and local Bulgarian sub-contractor ENPRO, was short listed for the Project Management Unit (PMU) contract from a tender list of 14 interested parties in March 2002, with final contract award and negotiations taking place throughout the latter part of 2002.

Commenting on the contract, Tim Cooper, General Manager - Europe, BNFL Environmental Services, said: "The Kozloduy win is extremely important for us and is a clear demonstration of our capabilities and ambitions for this region. We have a long-term commitment to the Bulgarian market and now have an excellent foundation to continue our work here and develop further business in the future."
