ETHNIC TURKS` PARTY NOT TO INSIST ON USE OF TURKISH LANGUAGE

[Announcer] For the time being, the Rights and Freedoms Movement [DPS] will not insist on introducing the Turkish language in the administrative services rendered in the mixed population regions. Valya Apostolova reports from Kurdzhali:
[Apostolova] This is already being done wherever necessary in the mixed population regions without any administrative acts, DPS Deputy Lyutfi Metan said. According to him, the DPS is sufficiently cautious with regard to this delicate subject.
Metan thinks that the ethnic model will be preserved only if the social-economic problems of the people in the mixed population regions are solved. The DPS will demand priority in directing some resources from the EU pre-accession funds to them. It is necessary to adopt an act on mountainous and semi-mountainous regions, and envisage financial and tax allowances for the municipalities which are in the most critical situation.
The Eastern Rhodopes problems were discussed today in a meeting between the five deputies of the DPS from that region and Kalin Primov, Kurdzhali region administrator. It has been agreed to turn those meeting into a tradition, as well as that the people`s deputies should create a permanent facility for contact with the population...
