Bulgaria Marks 140th Anniversary of Aleko Konstantinov Birth

The fifteenth traditional week, dedicated to the great Bulgarian writer Aleko Konstantinov, started on January 13, marking the 140th anniversary of his birth. Flowers will be laid at the monument of the author of "Bay Ganyo" in Borissova Garden, Sofia's biggest park, while "Friends of Aleko Konstantinov" club organizes concerts, recitals and movies. The first day of the celebrations also included concert of Polyphony choir at the National Palace of Culture. Co-organizers of the event are State Satirical Theatre "Aleko Konstantinov", the House of Tourist and Mountaineer, Bulgarian Tourist Union. Albanian writer Vanguel Kozma was awarded the "Aleko Konstantinov" award for 2002 for his short story "Babel Horoscope", published in Sturshel newspaper. The awarding ceremony took place in Aleko Konstantinov's hometown of Svishtov January 13. The Babel Horoscope beat 127 other short stories by authors from 16 countries. The 49-year-old Kozma has been a journalist with the Albanian National Radio and the Albanian press. In 2000 he became a freelancer. He has published two poetry books and two theatrical plays and has written for radio shows and song lyrics.
