Pop folk music enjoys highest popularity among young Bulgarians with low incomes and poor education, shows a survey of polling agency Alpha Research for last year. 32% of the respondents pointed pop folk music as their favorite music, while 36% said they are still nostalgic about Bulgarian popular music from before the 1990s. The preferences of over half of the respondents - 57% - go to Bulgarian folk music. Sociologists commented that these are mainly old people. Modern Bulgarian pop and rock music ranks fourth in the survey with 25%, followed narrowly by disco, Latino and classical music. Jazz fans accounted for 7% of the respondents, just a notch fewer than those who like rap music - 8%. According to the survey nearly 80% of the Bulgarians listen to local music at least once a week.
