UKRAINE BULGARIA SUPPORT MACEDONIAN INDEPENDENCE

Ukraine welcomes the NATO and European Union moves in the direction of settlement of the conflict in Macedonia and is ready to contribute to the development of this process, Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma said at a news conference in Sofia , summing up results of the Ukrainian-Bulgarian talks today. Kuchma is paying a state visit to Bulgaria on 4-5 September. Kuchma said that Ukraine shared the Bulgarian position on Macedonia. `Macedonia is a sovereign state and a UN member,` he said. `The world should proceed from the principle of territorial integrity and independence of Macedonia and discern between terrorism and protection of national interests.` Bulgarian President Petur Stoyanov said that the conflict in Macedonia `can not be solved` by military means. Bulgarian supports the recently signed framework agreement between the Macedonian government and the Albanian separatists. Stoyanov said that his country was for `an unconditional and full disarmament of the Albanian terrorist groupings`.
