A court in Istanbul has accepted the indictment prepared by the state prosecutor against Aslı Erdoğan and Nazmiye Alpay on charges of participation in a terrorist organisation, reported Hurriyet Daily News, cited by BTA.
Although the court ruled on their release on other counts, they continue to be detained due to the recent case. The Prosecutor’s Office has demanded life sentences for the two writers.
They were arrested in August 2016 for their work for the pro-Kurdish Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down for suspected propaganda on behalf of the terrorist organisation Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). The trial against them will begin on December 29.
