Voting is underway in Moldova where the two candidates have differing views on the country's future.
For the first time since 1997, the head of state will be elected by voters themselves and not by Parliament.
Moldovans are choosing between Socialist Party leader and ex-Trade Minister Igor Dodon, who has indicated he would pursue closer ties with Russia and reverse EU integration, former World Bank economist and Education Minister who wants to maintain closer economic and political relationship with the EU.
In the first round, Dodon defeated Action and Solidarity party leader Sandu, garnering 47.98% of the vote, with his opponent lagging behind at 38.71%.
It comes two years after Moldova signed an an association agreement with the EU in 2014.
The Southeastern European country which has large borders with Romania and Ukraine has been marked for decades by the breakaway of Transnistria, a mainly Russian-speaking territory where Russian has military presence.
