The rules of the new Electoral Code do not work, they set traps and put in doubt the holding of the elections, warn Bulgarians abroad united in the civil initiative “I Want To Vote”.
They have sent a letter to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Legal Commission Danail Kirilov, the chairman of GERB’s parliamentary group Tsvetan Tsvetanov, the co-chairmen of the parliamentary groups of the Patriotic Front Krasimir Karakachanov and Valery Simeonov, Reformist Bloc deputy Nayden Zelenogorski, the Central Election Commission (CEC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
There are more than 35 places in the UK where Bulgarian residents have fulfilled the legal requirements for the opening of electoral sections for the presidential elections and the referendum on November 6.
The Electoral Code sets a limit of 35 election bureaus for each foreign country. There are two requirements for the opening of such sections – they have to be at a consular or diplomatic mission, or there have to be at least 60 declarations to vote at the particular location.
According to the initiative, the amendments have been approved “without an in-depth analysis of the history of voting in the most populous and active communities outside Bulgaria and without heeding the basic provisions and texts of the constitution.”
