Bulgaria: Bulgarian Infant Mortality Rate Twice Higher Than EU Average BGNES

The infant mortality rate in Bulgaria is twice higher than the average for the European Union.

The reasons for this must be sought, commented Marvi Olinen, Professor at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the UK. She is one of the 50 delegates to the International Obstetrician Conference which begins on Thursday evening in Sofia.

The event is organised by the Alliance of Bulgarian Obstetricians and the focus of the discussions will be the implementation of an obstetrician model of care for pregnant women and women in labour.

“”There is no point of reading the statistics and the data, if there is no analysis why the figure is so high because this does not depend on one single factor,” stated Olinen.
