Sofia District Governor Veselin Penev resigned on Friday evening after a conversation with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov over the Tsarski konyushni deal. Only a few hours before that, Penev stated that he does not intend to hand in his resignation.
Borisov demanded Penev’s resignation after referring the deal to the Prosecutor’s Office and insisted that the Reformist Bloc withdraw Penev so that another person may be appointed in his place.
The Prime Minister reckons that the facts of the case are sufficient for a full check of the deal to be carried out.
The check must make sure that the stipulations of the State Property Act have been met with respect to the deal. The aim is to determine whether the agreement of the state institution which supervised the property has been sought and received.
The press office of the Council of Ministers stated explicitly that Borissov only learned of the deal from the media on Thursday.
